52nd Annual Meeting
The Tappantown Historical Society invites you to the Society’s 52nd Annual Meeting  on Friday,
November 3, 2017, at 7:30 pm in the DeWint Carriage House. There will a brief business meeting,
which includes the President’s Annual Report, the Treasurer’s Report, and the election officers and
directors.  

Program — 8pm
     The Tappan: A People and a Place

In this lecture/slide show, Mi'kmaq/Celtic author and award winning historian Evan Pritchard will
discuss the Tappan as a river people of the Algonquin nations who thrived here for centuries, and
also explore Tappan as a place name with a multi-cultural variety of meanings. He will unveil a newly-
published map of Rockland County entitled "Here Before Us," revealing many Algonquin settlements,
trails and waterways throughout the county, including their original names in the Lenape language.
There will be a brief Q and A, followed by book signing.
